"Ballad of the Huskies"

A long time ago, on a day not quite known
This story took place - as history has shown
A tale of great courage - told in books long since dusty
The story, the legend, of the circle named Huskies

Way up Big Bear Mountain, at a Y camp called Whittle
There was joy and fun, and neither quite little
Dads and their princesses playing in snow
Of what was to happen, nobody could know

As the girls settled down and evening drew near
The dads started rummaging, searching through gear
They were longing for footballs and chips and for...

...Dear listeners pay attention as this is true horror
If footballs were money they couldn't be poorer
Supplies from home not an option they supposed
As due to a large winter storm, the 18 was closed

Dads with Verizon - no other's cells working
Called down to sea level, where others were lurking
Please help us they said - full of desperate hope
And no one who heard was able to say "Nope"

A small band of soon to be heroes gathered their wits
And cabbage and sausage and other tasty bits
The road closed to cars, another way must be found
The answer, it turns out, was just laying around

Their furry companions - names such as Peanut and Jack
Were hitched up to sleds - and they never looked back
Though the way may be long and the weather was bad
There is nothing as strong as a princess and dad

They marched up the mountain...laden sleds in tow
Through the wind and the dark and the undriven snow
Arriving at Whittle with cargo intact
Their story became history, not just legend, but fact

This small group of heroes - brave dads and their girls
Courageous beyond both their years and their curls
Formed a circle called Huskies - a well fitting name
For a group of girls and their dads - who were destined for fame.
